3. PPSK Bill, Teten: Government Approves Cooperatives Supervised by OJK, Provided...

Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki said the government had approved his proposal regarding the establishment of cooperative compartments in the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Bill (RUU PPSK).

This is to ensure equal treatment between cooperatives and banks if there are problems that harm their members. "However, special supervision will be carried out, not the same as banking," he said when met by Tempo at the JS Luwansa Hotel, Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

He explained that the PPSK Bill, which is currently being discussed by the DPR Commission XI, is indeed intended for the entire financial sector to be under the supervision of the OJK. Moreover, Law Number 25 of 1992 concerning Cooperatives states that the ministry does not have a financial oversight function. Because, said Teten, based on the regulation, cooperatives supervise themselves by members, members' meetings, or a supervisory body that comes from cooperative management.
